Travel theme: Animals

Ailsa’s travel theme this week, had me looking through my photos once again, (when I should have been packing my cases). ๐Ÿ™‚ This one taken in Cairns, shows a young man who came every day to feed the pelicans on the beach. I remember that whilst I was watching, my hat blew off, and a very kind gentleman went down to retrieve it for me, before one of the pelicans took a fancy to it.

Lions are my favourite animals, and this very fine specimen was seen at the Rhino and Lion Park in Johannesburg.

Also to be viewed in Johannesburg game parks, there are zebras,

large and small rhinos.

and sleek, lazy cheetahs. I took this photo from the open Land Rover. The cheetah couldn’t even be bothered to jump up and grab my camera, I think they’re very well fed. ๐Ÿ™‚

We had to go all the way to Egypt to get to ride a camel. Hubby was very brave on his own,

but I felt safer with our son up front. I never realised that camels were so high off the ground, until it stood up.

At ‘Bear World’ in Yellowstone National Park, I met this rather large teddy bear. He didn’t look very cuddly though.

These cute little guinea pigs in Peru, did look very cuddly, but they were unfortunately destined for the dining table. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Of course, I didn’t taste one.

I’m all packed and ready to go to the airport. We fly to London this evening, so if I’m a bit scarce for the next few days, you’ll know why. I’ll pop in when I have the opportunity, but family comes first. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thanks so much, Grace. I’ll make a note of it, and when I have some time to spare, I’ll do an awards post.:)

  1. I would love to find a place where I could go feed pelicans each day, although perhaps more importantly, I would love to find someone who would subsidize the food that I would feed the pelicans each day………lol

    • We were told that this guy provides the food himself. It obviously gave him much pleasure. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thanks so much, Hopestar. Yes, he was brave, but they seemed to know him well. ๐Ÿ™‚ Hugs to you too.

  2. Great shots! Love the one of the cheetah – beautiful! We’ve started a new photo challenge devoted to pictures taken in the great outdoors & I’d love it if you’d participate!

Our Wild Weekly Photo Challenge encourages everyone to head into the wild (or the backyard) and photograph something outdoors that they feel fits the weekly theme. Our current theme for this week is “Fall” and you can read all the info on how to join in the fun here:

  3. ‘I took this photo from the open Land Rover. The cheetah couldn’t even be bothered to jump up and grab my camera, I think theyโ€™re very well fed.’

Probably well fed on the inhabitants of the previous Land Rover tour! ๐Ÿ™‚

Great photos you’ve got there. Some amazing sights with some great memories attached no doubt.

  4. Brilliant photographs. Love the guy on the beach with the Pelicans and the Lion, well, I’m a Leo so I simply cannot help but be completely in love with them. I love the way his mane has blown sideways on the top. Kinda looks a bit quizzical ๐Ÿ™‚
Of course, mentioning that the likes of Zebra can be seen around Johannesburg (I know, you did say in game parks but that might have been missed) may just solidify the view some have of life here – with wild animals roaming the streets ๐Ÿ˜€

  5. great animal pics, i like the pelicans …. and the cheeta … and love to see you riding a camel ….. we were ‘camel riding’ in yoga this morning!

  6. Oh how I love these photos and can’t wait til the grandkids come over to show them.Just wanted you to know how much the little ones love looking at your pics and sometimes we get the globe out and look up where they are taken.I am so glad I found you!We love this blog.

      • LOL! when I came to the UK a couple of weeks ago I needed to find the free wireless at CT airport. Eventually found it in the smokers lounge but had to escape because I couldn’t breathe. My escape was so sudden I walked into the glass door!

  7. Lovely photos, Sylvia. I love watching pelicans diving into the water to catch fish. they are amazing – and you will see lots more of them when you got to Florida.

    Safe travels ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Hope the journey goes off without hitch AD ๐Ÿ˜‰
Camels are quite large and ungainly!
but the elephant ride was not too bad ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. I’m not sure I’d want to be surrounded by all those pelican beaks but I suppose they do know what’s food and what’s not. The lion pic is fabulous. Hope you have a safe and pleasant journey.

  10. I don’t know, I think I would have like to have seen a pelican in a hat! These are wonderful pictures, I really do like the lion.

    Safe and happy travels!

  11. Your animals looks so adorable and huggable – note to self, the bear would rather eat than hug you! Safe trip and have fun!

  12. Stunning animal pictures…Camels really smell…OMW from far too….hahaha..The first picture appeals to my sense of humour…with all those beaks around, he is lucky he does not have a speedo on!!!!

    • They do smell, no doubt about that, Lisa. It was like, straight off the plane and onto the camel. ๐Ÿ™‚ I didn’t wear those jeans again for the whole trip.

  13. I have to say,I like those Rhinos best. Both kids are wanting guinea pigs…Moonlight is the only one here that might find them palatable, however,LOL! ๐Ÿ˜›

  14. Such wonderful pictures. I do envy you seeing the big cats in Africa. I hope you have a safe flight this evening. Perhaps you could bring some sunshine with you. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  15. Hi AD, that lion looks very superior and the bear …well I would not get any closer ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. Great pics, Ad. And you’re so right about the camels – they are very tall. I saw my first camel about six weeks ago and was astounded at how tall it was ๐Ÿ™‚
