Blog of 2012 award.

When I started blogging here  in January of this year, I felt that in the huge ocean which is WordPress, I must surely be like the smallest fish known to man. The Paedocypris progenetica, is transparent, and the size of a large mosquito The head doesn’t have a skeleton, leaving its brain vulnerable to its surroundings. This sounds like a good description of me as I was flung into the sea of colourful, eloquent and quite frankly, scarily good bloggers.

So I was very pleasantly surprised to find that there were people out there who not only noticed me, but actually enjoyed what I was blogging about. I have received many awards, some of which, (mea maxima culpa) I still have to properly accept. I’m not making excuses, but I’m sure that many of you find that it’s all you can do to keep up with all the blog posts you read and comment on, as well as doing your own posts, and award acceptance posts are very time-consuming.

Yesterday, I was shaken out of my lethargy, when Dallas of “Crazy Train to Tinky Town” nominated me for the “Blog of the year 2012 Award.” If you’re not familiar with her writing, let me tell you that Ms Dallas will have you laughing, crying, and screaming for more. You will not be able to help yourself from becoming addicted to her blog posts, so do yourself a favour and pay her a visit.

The ‘rules’ for this award are simple:

1 Select the blog(s) you think deserve the ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award

2 Write a blog post and tell us about the blog(s) you have chosen – there’s no minimum or maximum number of blogs required – and ‘present’ them with their award.

3 Please include a link back to this page ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award – http://thethoughtpalette.co.uk/our-awards/blog-of-the-year-2012-award/   and include these ‘rules’ in your post (please don’t alter the rules or the badges!)

4 Let the blog(s) you have chosen know that you have given them this award and share the ‘rules’ with them

5 You can now also join our Facebook group – click ‘like’ on this page ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award Facebook group and then you can share your blog with an even wider audience

6 As a winner of the award – please add a link back to the blog that presented you with the award – and then proudly display the award on your blog and sidebar … and start collecting stars…

As a little fish in a big pond, I am happy to nominate the following bloggers whose posts I’ve come to love, admire and look forward to. If you don’t appear in the list, watch this space, I have more awards still in my secret cupboard. 🙂

  4. Congratulations AD, a well-deserved award. You are such a great blogger, I enjoy reading and travelling through your posts. Enjoy…xxx

  5. Hello there, Part Time Floridian….
I very much enjoy your blog. I often look at the photo of Picchu Michu and wonder …. is that terraced farm land at the very top of that mountain that is the backdrop for the dwellings?
Most of all though, I enjoy what you select as subject matter, and often wonder why you made a change — what prompted you to choose Word Press instead of the others that also exist? Was it difficult to change and were you able to transfer any of the blogs you did on another service prior to this one? Do you make annual ‘books’ of your blogs?
Thanks for the uplift that your blog never fails to supply ….

    • Hi there, Connie. Thanks so much for your encouraging comment. I changed to WordPress because Letterdash close down and transferred all our blogs over to New24 WordPress which doesn’t work well at all and was full of spam comments. Many of the old bloggers have now moved over to this one, and I get readers from all over the world, instead of just South Africa. I have a lot of blog posts still saved on the old site, and may resurrect a few of them and give them a tweak occasionally, just for something different from travel photos etc. I’m so happy that you find my blog uplifting. 😀

  6. Congratulation for your award.
It’s cool to know people got an achievement by their love in writing. I have yet to read other posts of yours, but the glimpes of the are interesting enough. 🙂

  7. Congratulations on this award, Sylvia–richly deserved! And thanks for nominating us! We are so happy that you like our blog, and that you’ve nominated us in the company of so many other bloggers whose work we also already admire. They’ll probably be getting additional stars from us 😉

  8. Well done – you deserve every awards coming your way. I am still reading your blogs everyday but just dont have the time to comment on what you are saying. Hope this terribly busy time passes soon 🙂

  9. Congratulations! I love your reading your blog and seeing your photo’s, you go to some fabulous places.

  10. Congratulations AD! Beautiful acceptance speech, although I too do not agree with that bit about the ‘small fish’. You are one of the most efficient bloggers on here and the most generous as well.
I am truly kicked and grateful to you for including me in that list, and for your untiring support. Like Gilly I am way behind on my acknowledgements and might take a while to catch up. But thank you so very much 🙂

  11. Congratulations. Very richly deserved. Your knowledge about fish is very impressive. The Paedocypris progenetica eh? It’s a lovely little fish and I like the analogy. Thank you for the mention Sylvia. I appreciate that very much.

  12. congratulations on the award – well deserved! and I love the information about the little fish – fabulous! it might be small but look at all those wonderful colours and how the light reflects on it so beautifully – there’s an analogy in there somewhere!!

  13. I know that blogging and posting photos takes up a considerable amount of time and for that reason alone I am in awe of your blog. But what sets it apart is the consistently excellent content and photos. You have taken me to places that I will probably never visit myself and in doing that you have broadened my horizons. Your blog totally deserves this award – Congratulations and keep on blogging 🙂

  14. Thanks lovely AD lady! Its a really nice award and like you, Cathy and Scott, I’m behind with acceptance. I’ve received it before so this will be my second star, but please forgive me if I don’t catch up 😦
This blogosphere is a wonderful place and it amazes me to get so many responses to a few words or photos, but I love it and I’m totally addicted. There is so much to see and learn, even about alligators that are far too close for comfort!
Thanks for being a super blogger 🙂

  15. And a well deserved award it is too… I just love your blog… Thank you for nominating me for the award, I truly appreciate the nomination .. but I decided long ago not to accept awards as I don’t know how to add them to my blog and I just think everyone else’s blog is just soooooo much better than mine… I started this for fun and it has been a wonderful ride with so many lovely comments coming from so many wonderful people all over the world… please don’t be offended.. I do appreciate the sentiment, but your blog is just the type that deserves this award, and I do thank you for thinking mine is good enough for it… Thank you so much…

  16. Congrats, ad!! You so deserve all the accolades. I’ve been following you for sometime and your posts always get me smiling. Loved the Paedocypris progenetica anology..i often feel like that 🙂

  17. well deserved ad, congratulations, it is wonderful to be noticed and acknowledged, a great incentive to keep blogging … and you are excellent at commenting on and contributing to other blogs, a valuable skill that keeps the blogosphere spinning!

  18. You echoed my dilemma so succinctly…. Thank you and I have yet to work on my award. I need a bit more than shaking out of lethargy. It seems I go through cycles of getting completely swamped because there are simply so many wonderful blogs out there and it’s so tempting to sign up to follow, but then there are only so many hours in any given day… but this blogging community has been so wonderful and supportive and I just love everyone out there…. but there are those I stick to through thick or thin and yours is one of those! Thank you for all your supportive comments.

  19. Congratulations! Of course, your blog is lovely. 🙂 No surprise there for the award given you. (Ah, I think I just made a grammatically awkward sentence.) :-))

  20. OH…..MY…..GOSH……first of all..CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! You are SO deserving of this!! You show us all the most beautiful, inspirational places of the world and you share with us the things in your life that give you joy. You are most definitely NOT the smallest fish known to man….and you have to be one of the most beautiful fish known to man…inside and out :)…..Thank you for honoring my blog with this award…I’m stunned and I hope that I can do this justice…..Keep on being the you we love to follow 🙂 🙂

  21. mad,MAD props (means huge congradulations 😛 ),my friend!!! I think it’s well earned-you’ve kept me coming back to read, right? Good job,my friend, very proud of you 😀

  22. Congratulations on a well deserved blog and congratulations to all those remarkable bloggers who received your nomination!!! What a wonderful way to celebrate our community!!

  23. Congratulations on your award, Sylvia, and remember, to us you are a much bigger fish than that miniscule transparent Paedocypris progenetica! You’re the best!

And thanks too for nominating me. I too am behind in accepting some awards, but maybe I can combine them and do a post…. It is time consuming, but then it’s also nice to get a pat on the back and know that you have some faithful readers! 🙂

  24. congratulations – recognition is important and you are correct – when your are acknowledged you feel the need to respond, but constrained by what is going on in your life etc, I have failed to acknowledge some awards and done better at others but actually we bloggers are all producers and contributors – some of us administrate the process better than others… Bottom line is we are all trying to do our best and you do it particularly well and your award is completely justified. Congratulations and keep posting.
