Yesterday’s birthday lunch was wonderful. We met at my sister’s house, and my best friend who couldn’t make lunch because she had visitors coming, arrived with a gorgeous bouquet of roses, and a box of Lindor “irresistibly smooth” chocolates. Yum! 😉
Lunch was buffet style at Sprigs restaurant, which serves amazing vegetarian dishes. There are so many interesting an unusual combinations of really well cooked and healthy options. Of course dessert negates all that healthy eating, and this was my Mom’s choice. It was far too big for her to finish, so hubby kindly helped her out. 😉
This brings me to my answer to Side View’s “Variations on a theme” challenge. I know that some of you have in the past, complained that my food posts are too calorific for the good their waistlines, but I’m going to do this anyway. 😆
Desserts are a delicious theme, don’t you think? My sister calls me “The Dessert Queen.” Here are a few of the variations that I’ve either made or partaken of, or both:
My pineapple upside-down cake with walnuts and cherries.
This chocolate Key Lime pie, went down a treat,
as did my chocolate pie and meringues.
What about some of this delicious berry crumble?
Chocolate brownies, anyone?
Or maybe your prefer a plain vanilla ice cream with chocolate flake from your local pizza restaurant.
Or a few delicious dainty morsels like these.
You could have a piece of my granddaughters birthday cake.
or a piece of my son’s chocolate mousse wedding cake.
I’ll spare you the sight of my New York chocolate cheesecake, because I know you will all rather go for this much healthier option. 😆
So many variations on a theme, but which one will you choose?
What a sweet start of a new year. Happy belated birthday to you.
Thanks so much for the belated birthday wishes, and the visit. 🙂
Who needs an excuse? “Everything in moderation,” is what my gran used to tell me. 😉
I am always looking for excuses to not eat those healthy options and you have given me one 🙂 Happy belated birthday AD!

Hehehe. You must remember to wipe your keyboard off. 😉
Happy belated birthday AD!!!
All those eats looks absolutely lovely 😉 I want to immerse myself in a chocolate bath!!!
That sounds very decadent indeed, 68. 😆 Thanks for the birthday wishes. xx
Belated but heartfelt birthday greetings!!! Oh, and gorgeous photos! 🙂
Thanks so much, Madelaine. 😉
WOW! So many tasty treats. Glad you enjoyed your day 🙂
Thanks so much, Roly. I had a fantastic birthday weekend. 😉
Hope you had a splendid birthday and many more! What a “delicious” post! Choosing is hard but I think I will go for the Chocolate pie! However, they are all so tempting! Have a good day!
Thanks so much, Gail. I’ll cut you a generous slice of chocolate pie then, when you drop in for tea with me. 😉 Hope you have a great week.
Yes, my umpteenth birthday was on Saturday. 😉
Well there’s a thing! Happy birthday for Saturday. Hope you had a great one. 😉
Actually it was yesterday but it is close enough for us to be errrrrrrr.. twins!
Happy birthday! Oh my, those desserts are to die for!!!
1. Wish I could cook
2. Wish I could take pics like that
3. Wish I could reach into my computer screen and grab some
Thanks so much, Dianne. If your 3rd wish could become a possibility, there’d be none left by now. 😀
6am – your post is making me hungry – is it too early to start? of course not. we’re running afterward anyway, ha ha – burn calories, burn! BTW,
Was it your birthday and are you vegetarian? Or do you prefer the healthy options?
6am is definitely far too early for dessert! The very idea!! No I’m not vegetarian, but when they’re cooked like this restaurant does them, I could easily become converted………well, for a day maybe. 😀
Hehe a lot of animals would love you if you didn’t eat them 🙂 Ok it’s 8/l37am now – now is it safe to have dessert? Well, a after-run shake at least.
Maybe you can have a very small piece. Well done on the run. 😉
That they would but I’ll keep my von trap shut on that – I tend to go a bit overboard cause I’m passionate about not eating them 🙂
Thanks – best way to start the day and the earlier the quieter 🙂
Now I’m not sure whether you’re passionate about not eating animals or desserts, or both. 😀
Haha not eating animals 🙂 Lucky for the desserts they won’t be left out in the cold…got some lekker banana loaf from the local baking lady – and it’s still hot – can’t wait!
Oh my goodness, that’s a lot of sugar! The apples look yummy, but my mouth is watering at the sight of that chocolate mousse wedding cake! What a fun post!
Thanks so much. Yes, that wedding cake was very delicious, and soon disappeared. 😉
We appreciate the time and energy it takes to run a good blog and so we have nominated you for the One Lovely Blog Award!
We would be honored if you accept this award!
Thanks you so much. How nice of you to nominate me. 😀 I will accept it properly when I find a few minutes to choose the 15 other bloggers. 😉
Ow, happy birthday!
Thanks so much, rommel. I had a brilliant birthday weekend. 😉
I wont ever say no to desserts!
It is difficult for me to resist the temptation too, but you only live once., and life’s too short to turn down a delicious dessert.;)
All that wonderful dessert is making me hungry. Happy Birthday? 🙂
Thanks my friend. 😉
Wow! You are killing me! 🙂
Hehehe. Sorry about that, David. 😉
Num num couldn’t make up my mind.
Best have one of each then, footsy. 😉
So, I’m the oddball. I’ll take the apple as long as it’s picked fresh off the tree. None of your tasteless supermarket variety.
Our Pink Lady apples taste much better than the ones we got in America. Not sure why they should be so different.
I don’t bother with apples out of the supermarkets. They’re pretty awful, but fresh off my own trees of locally grown… yum, yum… I’ll take fresh fruit over pastries any day.
How lovely to have your own apple trees, Gunta. My gardens are both far too small. 😦
You’re making me HUNGRY,my friend!!! Awe crud…I’m logged in the wrong account again,LOL,but you know I’m the same ol DC you know,eh? 😛
The Olskool DC
Hi there, DC in disguise. 😉 Sorry I made you hungry. Go and raid the cookie jar. 😀
Chocolate brownies! yay 🙂
It all looks very delish ad 🙂
Glad you found something to your liking, Hopestar. Help yourself. 😉 hugs xx
Great post. Love the last photo!
Thanks, Naomi. The healthy option for you then? 😉
thank goodness we are only eating with our eyes!
Yes, always something to be thankful for, hey? 😉
I’m putting on weight just looking at the desserts and cakes 😦
Bugger the apples, though, I’ll go for your mom’s piece of cake, too!
(I had some milktart today)
Do you recognise the ice cream and chocolate flake from your birthday lunch last year? 😉
Wow the is making me so hungry! Lovely photos!
Thanks so much, Nicole. Sorry about the hungry feeling. 😉
You absolute tease putting the apple photo here instead of the cheesecake!!! I just love desserts I have such a sweet tooth 🙂
Hehehe. I had to keep a bit of balance here, Gilly. 😉
Beautiful picture of you and the chocolate mousse cake! One of each for me…
Thanks, Amy. You have a sweet tooth too? 😉
you can keep the apple, I’m having what your mum had 🙂
Hehehe. Why am I not surprised, Ruth? 😉
Which one would I choose? All except the fruit…
You’re such a guy, bdt. 😀
My weakness is desserts. My mouth is watering for all of the above, except the apples (smile). I can just imagine the cheesecake, which makes it worst. Thanks for posting your take on sweet variations. It works for me.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Glad you enjoyed, and not a single calorie passed your lips, Francine. 😉
The dainty morsels look good to me. Then bring on the key lime
I have to brag that the Key lime is literally “to die for.” 🙂
I’ll just try each one. Irresistible. 🙂
Great idea, Lynne. 😉
They all look absolutely gorgeous and delicious 😀
Yes, and taste that way too, Chris. 😉
oh yum! just as well we are eating light for the next month, although that does not count the chocolate brulee I ate last night at an early birthday dinner …. i do love desserts and yours look delicious ad! glad your birthday celebrations were all healthy and fun 🙂
Brulee is another favourite of mine, Christine. So, you’ve started celebrating your birthday already? 😉
well sort of, our favourite restaurant closes for the month of august, so we got in early 🙂
Good thinking, Christine. 😉
Love that plate of dainty treats!! How do you stay looking so good!!!! 😉
Thanks, Lisa. Everything in moderation, and a bit of over indulgence if the occasion warrants it. 😉
Good way to describe them. 😀
I’m drooling!!!! They all look so yummy.
Yes, I must say, they do photograph very well, Florence. 😉
