Such Sunday feasts will be greatly missed.


Yesterday was our last Sunday lunch at my sister’s house, before we leave to go back to our house in Florida for six months.  My brother-in-law is a fantastic cook, and this time, we were treated to slow roasted beef fillet,

together with lamb curry, an assortment of roast vegetables, and my favourite mushroom sauce.

My mom, being the eldest, always gets to help herself first. As she was walking back to her place at the table, a voice piped up, “Are you sure you have enough food there?” Of course, we all turned to look at her plate, which was full almost to overflowing. For such a tiny person, she sure has a good appetite. It all went down really well, together with good wine, and between the nine of us, there was lots of conversation and laughter.

I’m really going to miss these delicious occasions, but I suppose the time will fly by, as it is wont to do, and we’ll soon be back again.

I guess they’ll miss my decadent desserts whilst we’re away. Don’t even ask how many calories in this chocolate cheesecake. 🙂

Whilst all this was going on, Dingo took the opportunity to grab a bit of solitude, and slept in the sun, undisturbed.

  2. I see a lot of food on this blog. But it does show in the weights of the people here. Actually, same as me, I don’t get weighty. I can eat, not be fat and be happy. 😀

    • That’s very kind of you. I’m sure my sister will appreciate your thoughtfulness, but you do realise that you’ll have to provide a dessert, usually big enough for 12 people. I have set the standard very high, so no bread and butter pudding or semolina. 🙂

      • She says she has a receipe somewhere (Read: I haven’t a clue where it is, dad.) but has never attempted a chocloate version so your receipe would be greatly appreciated.

  23. Much as I enjoyed the visual food feast and wonderful , happy smiles, I kind of felt sad that you had to say goodbye to your family. Kind of reminds me of me. I bet you have so many beautiful memories and soon enough you’ll see them again. It’s a joy to see your family!

  32. Great gatherings, i love family gatherings and celebrations a lot. Few things next generation families cant think off. Cake seemes to be yummy with flakes. Happy treat :). Great shots dear.

  35. I really miss those Sunday feasts we used to have at my parents home…with granny and the aunts and whoever was popping by!!! Looks delicious!! Have a safe and happy trip and look forward to those Florida posts!!

    • Thanks, Gail. Yes, you’re right of course. When we get over there, it will be exciting and new once again. It’s just hard leaving the family here. Hope your week is a happy one too. 🙂

  41. At the rate time is whizzing past your 6 month stay will be over in no time! Ooh that cake looks good – do you add extra chocolate – because you can?

    • That’s frighteningly true, Marco. The cheesecake contains 3 bars of Cadbury’s Bournville, and I bar of milk chocolate, not to mention the 750g of cream cheese, and a pkt of Romany Creams. 🙂 It was very well received.
