Yesterday was our last Sunday lunch at my sister’s house, before we leave to go back to our house in Florida for six months.Β My brother-in-law is a fantastic cook, and this time, we were treated to slow roasted beef fillet,
together with lamb curry, an assortment of roast vegetables, and my favourite mushroom sauce.
My mom, being the eldest, always gets to help herself first. As she was walking back to her place at the table, a voice piped up, “Are you sure you have enough food there?” Of course, we all turned to look at her plate, which was full almost to overflowing. For such a tiny person, she sure has a good appetite. It all went down really well, together with good wine, and between the nine of us, there was lots of conversation and laughter.
I’m really going to miss these delicious occasions, but I suppose the time will fly by, as it is wont to do, and we’ll soon be back again.
I guess they’ll miss my decadent desserts whilst we’re away. Don’t even ask how many calories in this chocolate cheesecake. π
Whilst all this was going on, Dingo took the opportunity to grab a bit of solitude, and slept in the sun, undisturbed.
Hope you all had a great weekend too.
What a personal & lovely post!
Thanks so much for reading, Cindy. π
I see a lot of food on this blog. But it does show in the weights of the people here. Actually, same as me, I don’t get weighty. I can eat, not be fat and be happy. π
Glad you and I are among the lucky few, Rommel. π
What a beautiful gathering… Enjoy your time back in sunny FLA! π
I’m sure we will. Thank you. π
Wow that looks tasty, I have just finished dinner and am hungry all over again.
Please send some sunshine from Florida it is getting cold and dreary here.
It was very tasty indeed, grannymar. Sorry about your weather over there. They don’t call it ‘The Emerald Isle’ for no reason. π
I can’t believe it’s time for you to go back to Florida already! where does the time go? Maybe Himself and I can attend these Sunday functions is\n your place? π
That’s very kind of you. I’m sure my sister will appreciate your thoughtfulness, but you do realise that you’ll have to provide a dessert, usually big enough for 12 people. I have set the standard very high, so no bread and butter pudding or semolina. π
Love that chocolate cake. Love it!
I thought you just might, TG. π
How lovely!
I suppose you noticed that there were no Maltesers on the cheesecake. π
that chocolate cake should be on top of the fridge, that way the calories can leap off and die
Hehehe. That’s a rather drastic solution, sidey. π
it works, really!
I’ll take your word for it, sidey. π
π
and i never lie
The dessert looks amazing! Have a great day π
Thanks, Tandy. Hope your day is a good one too. π
What a lovely lunch and lovely group of ladies. π
I can see why you will miss it. That chocolate cheesecake looks divine!! Yum!
Dingo is too funny. That is my kind of nap. Zzzzz.
Thanks, Angelia. We all get on so well together. π
If I look at the cheese cake again, I’m going to gain a couple of pounds. π What a dinner!
Hehehe. Sorry, Amy. π
I had a wonderful weekend, but nowhere near something as delicious as this! Wow π
Thanks, Dianne. It was a real treat. π
The Cheescake looks superb. I shall show it to Emily, Maybe she can reproduce it.
I’m sure your Emily can bake anything. I can give you the recipe if you like. π
She says she has a receipe somewhere (Read: I haven’t a clue where it is, dad.) but has never attempted a chocloate version so your receipe would be greatly appreciated.
Ok…..NOW I’m hungry,and pizza or burgers ain’t gunna do it,LOL!
Sorry, Steve. π
LOL π
And I’m going to be in Durban next month and I thought I would attend one of your piano recitals… and you won’t be there… Damn…
What a pity. I would have loved to meet you. π Shall I cancel my flight?
No you go and enjoy… I look forward to the photos from Florida….
I’ll do that. Maybe another time will work out. π
Looks like a wonderful time was had by all – and that chocolate cheesecake does look decadent! π
We all had a splendid feast, and my cheesecake went down a treat. π
Parting is such sweet sorrow, but then think of how much happier the reunion will be. Do you get to see your son more often when you’re on this side of the Atlantic?
We’re hoping to go to him for Christmas, and they will probably come down to us for few days in the New Year. π
I do miss a good Sunday Lunch
I’m glad I didn’t miss this one. π
Sigh… I’d thought we’d gotten over the foodie pics π
Oooops!! I’d quite forgotten that you may come to visit, TA. π
What a delicious post. Safe travels.
Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed our lunch. π
Ouw very delicious …yumi .. π
I think you could be right. π
What a beautiful feast, seems it was so nice and delicious too… This is a lovely dog… Thank you dear AD, have a nice new week, love, nia
Thanks so much, dear nia. You too must have a lovely week. π
Much as I enjoyed the visual food feast and wonderful , happy smiles, I kind of felt sad that you had to say goodbye to your family. Kind of reminds me of me. I bet you have so many beautiful memories and soon enough you’ll see them again. It’s a joy to see your family!
Thanks so much. Memories are indeed made of days like this. I will see them again before we go. π
The food looks lovely and the cake looks delicious, have a safe flight to florida,:-)
Thanks so much, matron. Have a great week. π
Wow! Looks like you had a great day with some wonderful family and food!
Now you will have me thinking about chocolate cheescake all day. π¦ π
Dingo looks like how I would look soon after enjoying that feast.
Thanks, Phil. I’d love to give you some of my chocolate cheesecake, but they ate it all. π
Well that’s just my luck. π
You win some, you lose some, Phil. π
That’s for sure…heh heh
This is so warming to see, nourishment of many kinds. Where in Florida? We are on Pine Island.
Thanks, Lynn. We’re on the other side of Florida, in Boynton Beach.
The states welcome you back.
GREAT cake :-).
Thanks, Gemma. Yes, that was the general consensus about the cake. π
Lamb Curry is fantastic! Have fun in Florida..:-)
Thanks, Ed. Yes it is, and this one was just how I like it. π
I think what you need is one of these handy little ‘doorways’ beloved of fantasy writers which bridge two places far distant from one another. Pop over from Florida for dinner, and back home for a siesta …
That would be just dandy, Col.Just imagine. π
Looks like you had a fabulous and memorable day to cherish whilst you’re away. π
Yes, we did, Cb. π
Cheers for your family having a Sunday feast! I can tell that chocolate cheesecake was prepared with a calorie remover. Meanwhile, I’ll take some port with my slice. π
Thanks, Frank. I’m afraid my kitchen doesn’t boast a calorie remover. Are they very expensive. π
Next time you are at a bakery counter, ask the clerk if they used a calorie remover!
You think I’m blonde, hey? π
Great gatherings, i love family gatherings and celebrations a lot. Few things next generation families cant think off. Cake seemes to be yummy with flakes. Happy treat :). Great shots dear.
Thanks so much, Henry. Yes those chocolate curls just made the cheesecake really special. ; )
Hi AD, I can just pile on the pounds looking at a cheesecake like that π
No comment. π
Since you’ll be missing them, I’m sure you will appreciate them all the better when you’re back again AD π
That cheesecake and the fillet looks quite absolutely scrumptious!!!
S’true, 68. I was very proud of that cheesecake. First time I’ve made it, and it turned out perfectly. π
Pride is rightly deserved!!!
We once made a mouse with 2l of cream and I think 2 slabs of chocolate – decadence, your name is chocolate!!!
Yikes, that’s a lot of cream! π
I really miss those Sunday feasts we used to have at my parents home…with granny and the aunts and whoever was popping by!!! Looks delicious!! Have a safe and happy trip and look forward to those Florida posts!!
Thanks, Lisa. Yes there’s nothing quite like family Sunday lunches. We’ll be having one in England the Sunday after next. π
Damn wish I was flying accross the channel!!!! π
Wouldn’t that be great? π
Mmmmmm…that beef looks delicious! π
It certainly was, Lance. The whole meal was as they say, “to die for.” π
The food looks really delish ad. Amazing how time flies and its almost time for you to leave again π
*hugs*
Thanks, Hopestar. Yes, I don’t know where time goes to these days. π Thanks for the hugs, and have some for yourself. π
Sounds like it was delicious
“Was,” being the operative word, Roly. π
Hi AD,
Food looks absolutely delicious! Sure you are going miss that but then also looking forward to your home and all the goings on in Florida! Looking forward to your further adventures and updates once you are back there.
Have a good week.
Regards
GAIL
Thanks, Gail. Yes, you’re right of course. When we get over there, it will be exciting and new once again. It’s just hard leaving the family here. Hope your week is a happy one too. π
if you have no one who will eat brownies a voluntary checkin ‘:) ! excellent post
Thanks for volunteering, Stefan. π I think there are not even crumbs left over. π
At the rate time is whizzing past your 6 month stay will be over in no time! Ooh that cake looks good – do you add extra chocolate – because you can?
That’s frighteningly true, Marco. The cheesecake contains 3 bars of Cadbury’s Bournville, and I bar of milk chocolate, not to mention the 750g of cream cheese, and a pkt of Romany Creams. π It was very well received.
Hmmmm anyone who didn’t like that must be either mad or anorexic π
What a feast! Maybe the six months in Florida will help to shake of the calories π
I doubt it, newsy, but one can always hope. π
