Silhouettes and sunsets

What a perfect challenge this week, to show of a couple of Florida sunsets. My bloggie-friend Gunta, has requested exactly that, so without further ado, here they are.

Yesterday evening we decided to go to the bar at the club, for the first time since we got back here. Walking through the door, I was greeted with the familiar sight of a beautiful flower arrangement in the foyer.

Arriving in the Sunset Lounge, it was just as though we’d never left. The same people were sitting at the same tables, chatting and sipping their drinks. “Your back!!” came the cry, as Dru the barman enveloped me in a big bear-hug. He said that my piano playing had been sorely missed, so I promised that next week, I would play for them all again. As we sipped our wine, the sun was slowly sinking, and I got a rather mediocre ‘almost sunset’ pic.

Dru then showed me a rather spectacular sunset which he’d captured on his iPhone only last week, and I asked him if I could share it with you. He agreed, and here it is:

Tonight, my cooking was interrupted for a quick click, to capture the start of the sunset. You really must expect palm tree silhouettes in Palm Beach County; it’s a foregone conclusion. πŸ™‚

Whilst we were having dinner, I decided that my salmon could wait for a few minutes, because I needed toΒ  capture the silhouettes outside the window.

Ailsa also used ‘Silhouette’ as her travel theme in August, and I used my best pics for that. Here’s the link, if you would like to check it out.

Wishing you all a great weekend. πŸ™‚

  12. Sunsets and silhouettes go so perfectly together πŸ™‚

Glad you are settling back in, though there is something sad about when you say, “it was just as though we’d never left. The same people were sitting at the same tables, chatting and sipping their drinks.”

ItΒ΄s a timely reminder that many people donΒ΄t go off exploring the world, having the adventures that you have. They seem to be stuck in a kind of time warp.

    • Thanks, Marianne. Many of the people living here, come and go as we do. They are mostly from other parts of the States, where the winters are very cold. Thursday night is a very popular night in the bar, as there is a delicious hot and cold buffet. πŸ˜‰

  13. Sweet Sylvia! I’m falling behind on email, but skipped right ahead to yours when I saw your subject just now. What lovely Florida sunsets! How come you get to pick such lovely spots to live in? NOW… you just have to come out and get one on the Pacific!!! (Thanks for the link-back!) πŸ˜‰

    • Hi, Gunta, and good morning to you. Yes, I am such a lucky fish, having homes in two different paradises. πŸ™‚ I would absolutely love to come and see yours too one day.

  14. Like your pics.
Sunsets in Durban are not all that easy. We are on the rising side of the country!

    • Thanks so much, Kragenhai. Yes I know what you mean. I never saw a good sunset in Umhlanga, especially as our house faces the sea.Sunrises are a different story, but I’m not an early riser. πŸ™‚
