This is a lovely challenge, and I see that many bloggers have posted beautiful nature pics for the theme.
To my mind, renewal means a bit of respite from the daily grind, and if one is very lucky, even a holiday.
Yesterday, we were on our way to Home Depot for the umpteenth time, to look at ‘stuff’ we need for redoing the kitchen. I spotted a Starbucks along the way, and we pulled in there for a bit of rest and renewal in the form of a cappuccino for hubby and a chai latte for me. I really don’t know why that chocolate brownie is sitting on my keyboard, but it seemed a shame not to eat it. π
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about my home in South Africa. The summer holidays are coming up, and then the town and the beach will be swarming with work-weary holiday-makers, who have come down to the coast for a bit of well-earned renewal.
Moms will have time to sit under an umbrella and read, whilst dads will become little boys again, as they play sand castles with the kids.
Older couples may prefer to find renewal away from the crowds, and sit contemplating the waves in peace.
Dogs just love to run free along the beach. Their joy and exuberance just says it all.
Some companies send their employees down to the ocean for a few days, for a bit of renewal in the form of ‘Team Building’ activities.
At holiday time, I like to stay far away from the ‘madding crowd’, and find renewal just sitting at the top of our beach steps, watching the ever changing pattern of the waves.
What does the word “renewal” mean to you?

The sea is always soothing, and that last picture…has it all!
Yes it is. Thanks, AnnChristine. π
I feel renewed after reading this post AD π That last image encapsulates the meaning of renewal!
I’m so glad you did, madhu. It’s lovely just to sit and watch the waves. π

Think I forgot to comment – just love Umhlanga π
Me too. π
Lovely post, AD! And I lo how the beach figures in every image!! π
Thanks so much. The beach and the ocean is so renewing to the spirits. π

Renewal for me is the ocean – I absolutely love it! Your pics are beautiful (and I really feel like a brownie now!) π
Thanks, Dianne. I also feel like a brownie, but I unfortunately don’t have one to hand. π
Chai latte! Yay! (My fave.) Brownie! Double yay!
Nice job, ad.
I think that you and I would get along famously, Gemma, over a couple of chai lattes and brownies. π
Sorry I haven’t been around lately … π¦
Outstanding way to think about renewal. Usually thinking of home is about home sickness, but your renewal thoughts are counter to that.
Being away is one way of renewal, but vacations can bring renewal through hectic times. On the other hand, seeing you sitting on the bench reminds me that being away to relax is a renewal to the next level.
Now about that brownie ….
No problem, Frank. It’s nice to know that fellow bloggers also have a life outside of blogging. π Thanks for your thoughtful comment, and as for the brownie…….it’s long gone. π
I LOVE this post π I have enjoyed this stroll with you AD. Same as you, I find myself renewed best sitting under a tree…. π
Thanks so much, Paula. I’m glad you enjoyed our stroll together. π
Ahhhh, how serene! Your photos are lovely, and so relaxing to look at…as the wind blows and the temps drop to 37 degrees F here today! brrr… And, can you believe, I’m drinking a chai latte as I read this? π
Yay! A fellow chai latte fan. π Keep warm there, Judy.
The beach at your back door? wow that must be amazing!
Yes it’s very cool, Gilly, unless there is a tsunami. π
I’m pretty sure you don’t have to guess what my renewal is. It seems to pop up a lot in the blog (though I try not to include too many shots of the pup playing on the beach – she’s simply too fast to catch a good shot of her.) Having been through a few house “renewals” I wish for yours to be done soon and you’ll get to enjoy that new kitchen and all the rest.
Thanks so much, Gunta. I’m so used to hubby doing renovations that I’m sort of immune to the temporary upheaval. The kitchen units arrive tomorrow. Then the fun begins. π Your little pup must absolutely love that you love going to the beach. π
Renewal? Better make a decision about my driving license! With Brit traffic, no parking etc. etc. very tempting not to π
I hope you don’t have to take a driving test again. Horrors! π―
Beautiful images and love the beach… π
Thanks so much, Bams. π
Loving your work – I’m always renewed after a starbucks and chocolate!!
Thanks so much, Dallas. I find it so difficult to pass a Starbucks. π
Just to smell the sea air and watch the waves crashing on the renews my soul….
Mine too, annie. Great to see you again. I hope you and your son are well. Do you have another kitty yet? xx
Lovely scenes! Ummm…brownie  π
Thanks, Phil. I gather that you liked the brownie the best. π
Lovely pics ad, made me long for “Durbs by the sea”
*hugs*
Thanks, Hopestar. When are you taking a holiday? You deserve one. Hugs xx
I’m hoping next year April.
π
yep! looks like renewal to me. and i wouldn’t mind the chocolate brownie either π
Thanks so much for your visit, Xristin. π
Hope you feel suitable renewed π
Ready for the next onslaught, Marianne. π
great post and pics AD, nothing like sea air to reinvigorate one!
Thanks, optie. Yes, you’re so right. π
What I would not give for a few days by the sea!!
You’re right – it is the perfect renewal π
I can well imagine that, 68. You would probably kiss the beach. π
Your beach looks a lot like ours here in Australia.
Yes, I’ve been told that. I’ve only ever seen the beaches on our Barrier Reef cruise. They were lovely. π
AD, you need to stop with the foodie pics, I’ve already gained more than enough weight from all the bundu bashin I’ve been doing, there’s no need to lead me into temptation at home as well π
Everytime I go to the beach, I feel like a kid again. Somehow, I always find myself building sandcastles π
Sorry, I forgot your strict instructions about no food pics. π
Yessss! All those weekendy things are everything I need to renew, more than a spa or a massage.
π Thanks so much for your visit and comment.
All of these things are perfect things to renew the spirit, especially the cappuccino and that chocolate brownie!!
Glad you enjoyed, Cathy. I’m missing my beach this time around, and I mustn’t eat too many of those brownies. They are delicious though. π
I haven’t had a brownie in so long. Now I’m craving one. Well, in Florida, you’re in the perfect place for the beach!
Sorry I can’t pop you a brownie through the screen, Cathy. π If I have to get in the car to go to the beach, I lose interest. I’m spoilt, aren’t I? π
It is so nice to just walk out your front door and hang out at the beach!
I like the pic of the dad playing with his kids.
Too cute, hey? π
What a lovely interpretation! I am getting a renewing cup of caffeine right now π
Glad you enjoyed it, Tandy. Green tea is my morning pick up. π
A holiday would be great… Wish I could take one but… π
That’s a very wistful comment, Elizabeth. π
Renewal to me at the moment means all the work we have to do on our house to renew it!
π¦ Well, I’m up to my neck in renewal stuff. The new wall-oven is sitting in my lounge, waiting for the kitchen units to arrive. Today, the demolition fun begins. π
LOVE the beach!
The DC
You can’t really ride your bike there though, or can you? π
Not mine, but I have seen bikes with fat paddle tires π
Ah yes, I guess that “paddle tires” would be perfect for paddling in the sea. π
LOL,check this out if you’re talking about riding ON the actual sea ;)…….
Awesome!! π It looks like an awful lot of hassle though. I think I’d prefer a kayak. π
Yeah,me too π
Those pooches seem to really enjoy themselves.
I think all dogs love the beach. π
You posted a chocolate brownie just as I got my coffee and I don’t have one here π¦ The day we can start downloading such things won’t be a day too soon in my book. A lovely post Sylvia. π
Sorry about the brownie, Adrian. Just imagine being able to have such delectable downloads. Very bad for the waistline though. π
Well, I’ll be one of the multitude going to the beach for a renewal break. Litchi (the dog) is really going to be happy (she thinks sand is the best toy ever invented). Luckily, with family in East London, I get to go somewhere where it is not too busy
Something for you both to really look forward to, Susan.
I love the photos of Umhlanga.. and you obviously have a wonderful view… I have a friend who has a house up that way and I love to sit on his stoep and watch the ships moving in and out of Durban harbour…
why have you a chocolate brownie on your keyboard.??? it should be eaten before the photo is taken…
Thanks, bdt. If I ate the brownie first, then I couldn’t make you jealous. π
