This week, Jake wants to see our surroundings, so I decided to share a few pics taken from around where I live.
This pretty drive will take you up to the entrance gate, and as you may notice, it had just been planted out with hybrid Impatiens. When they really get going, it will be a riot of colour.
Just outside my house, is a lovely lake, which isn’t a huge surprise. In Florida, everywhere you look, there is water.
Last year, we had a Mr Smiley who was very much a part of our surroundings,
but now we just have Lizzie, who likes to sit outside my bedroom window or on the garden spray, watching for insects.
Many birds come to the water to do aย bit of fishing by day,
and even at night.
The people who live here use their surroundings for really strenuous activities, like riding around on golf carts,
or sunning themselves next to the pool. ๐
As well as water, we are also surrounded by palm trees.
If you’re feeling peckish, you could grab a bite to eat at the poolside restaurant.
You especially might want to do this, if your oven is sitting in the middle of the lounge area, as mine is at the moment.
At present, in my home, I’m surrounded by tools, piles of wood flooring,
and kitchen units waiting to be assembled.
I suppose I could go and sit by the pool and read a book, but then who would make hubby’s coffee and his well deserved lunch? I just hope that I can find somewhere to prepare it. ๐
I hope you enjoyed looking at my surroundings. If you would like to see other bloggers’ interpretations ofย Jake’s theme, just click here.
This is soooo nice! I love the lake view and all the bird (and lizzy) visitors. It’s unusually cold here, so I envy the shorts weather. ๐
Your surroundings are beautiful… Plus I love the body of water there… ๐
Thanks, Elizabeth. I love it too.:)
Envy you your resort like surroundings…all except Mr. Smiley ๐
๐ Sadly, he is no more. ๐ฆ
Very nice surrounds, but oh that looks like a lot of Work (with a capital W) ahead of you
Thanks, Pommepal. A scary amount of work, but I’ve lived through much worse. ๐
Hi AD,
Your outside surroundings are so relaxing and beautiful! The inside is upside down now I am sure but once all renovations are done, I am sure you will be happy and also relaxed! The lake looks so lovely!
Take care
Gail
Thanks so much, Gail. It’s lovely here, for sure, and when the work is all done, I’ll be in paradise. ๐
what fun ad, i am sure it will all be just perfect when it is done, and meanwhile there is the pool ….
Thanks, Christine. I know he’ll make a fantastic job. He’s proved himself many times before. ๐
Looks like a very relaxing atmosphere. You should post more photos as your home is being remodeled.
Thanks, LuAnn. I probably will do updates. How can I resist? ๐
Great pool, very hard to resist.
Yes, you’re right, Gb. ๐
Water, birds, palm trees…fun surroundings, not alligators though.
No more alligators since that one. ๐
wonderful neighborhood, by the lake.. an ideal place to live in.. its cool to see mr. smiley but hopefully not finding him in the pool though..
Thanks, starlight. I’ll watch out for him in the pool. ๐
Oh I miss the Florida sun by thanks for sharing some of yours.
You’re very welcome, Emily. ๐
Lovely surroundings, and the alligator just adds character. ๐
I’m so glad you think so, Ruth. My neighbours weren’t of the same opinion, and had him taken away.
Hi AD, I trust you that you look after hubby and don’t give him a hard time. Contractors make a lot more mess and won’t give you the kind of service your hubby can ๐
I know how lucky I am. ๐
Great surroundings you have there my friend and by adding those tools in your home for sure more attraction you will get soon ,Thanks for sharing ๐
Thanks so much, Jake. You’re so right. I must just be patient, and soon it will look great. ๐
I think as soon as Hubby has lunch, you should go do some of that strenuous exercise pool side…or else on a golf cart ride!
I’d feel really guilty doing that, Suzanne. Anyway, who would keep an eye on him to make sure he’s not slacking? ๐
HA!
๐
Reminds me of me mum’s place in Florida… except for the ‘gator and the golf carts. The remodel reminds me of days gone by when we did a lot of remodeling. I must say you’re taking it far better than I did… though maybe your hubby does better work than our contractors did. Sounds to me like you might have the perfect excuse to take a break from kitchen duty…. ๐
Yes, I’m so used to renovation projects. This is nothing compared to what I’ve been through in the past. I even had to ‘walk the plank’ across the entrance hall in one of the houses we had, while hubby demolished a wall and used the rubble to fill up the hole, so that he could tile. ๐
Wonderful series! ๐
Thanks so much, Inga. ๐
What amazing surroundings you have! it looks idyllic, and I like Lizzie but . . . a crocodile alligator thing??? seriously?
Yes, it is idyllic, Gilly. I do miss that alligator though. ๐ http://blogs.24.com/anotherdayinparadise/2011/11/14/theres-a-gator-in-my-garden-weekend-excitement-in-florida/
I can’t get the capcha code right but it’s horrible and I’ve gone right off the idea of Florida ๐
Hehehe ๐

Thanks so much for the reblog, Maxima. I didn’t know about your other blog. ๐

WOW!
๐
This looks fabulous!!!
Thanks, Nicole. I’m sure it will look more fabulous when all the work is finished.
Quite a tranquil setting you’ve got there AD ๐
Maybe not the inside quite as much as the inside though!!
You’re right there, 68. Do you fancy a job, helping to build the new kitchen?
Hmmm…
Now there’s an offer ๐
You have a lovely place. I won’t mind it if Little Alli packs up and go though. ๐
Hehehe. He was taken away last year, as he grew too big. http://blogs.24.com/anotherdayinparadise/2011/11/14/theres-a-gator-in-my-garden-weekend-excitement-in-florida/
I wouldn’t mind having surroundings like that ๐
Yes, and there’s no EO. ๐
who wouldn’t love that view!
True. I love it here. ๐
You have some beautiful surroundings,my friend. I think I’d pick Lizzie everyday of the week, but I think I’d park the cart and peddle to the pool to actually swim ๐ Don’t feel bad about the oven sitting out there…ours sat at a neighbor’s place for2 months before I got around to installing it (in my defense…we eat out too often, and we have both a toaster over and “countertop” over-which is between a toaster and regular in useage-to use in the meantime ๐ )
The DC
Thanks, Steve. I’m dying to use my new oven; not sure what I’ll make, but I’ll think of something. ๐
Make a good old fashioned meatloaf with a chocolate cake chaser ๐
Sounds very good. ๐
Beautiful surroundings. I could sit by the pool under the palm trees all day but I would run like crazy if I saw Lizzy. Thanks for sharing your surroundings.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Thanks, Francine. If you would run form Lizzie, I imagine you would grow wings if Mr. Smiley appeared. ๐
As we all should know by now, the minute things get settled you get restless and unsettle them!
The surroundings are the stuff dreams are made of, and I don’t mean nightmares.
Why do I always get the blame, Col? As things are at the moment, I’m beginning to wish we’d left well alone. ๐ The dream part is wonderful, but the nightmare of dust and noise is starting already.
When will you learn?
๐
Nice surroundings there in Florida, Sylvia! Love all the palm trees and water and especially the food by the poolside. Where’s the wine? And love that strenuous exercise of driving around on golf carts! That’s my kind of exercise!!
Thanks, Cathy. I usually only have wine with an evening meal. I prefer water at lunchtime. ๐
Oh yes, me too! I didn’t even think about that. Wine in the afternoon makes me way too sleepy. I’d be useless the rest of the day…
Exactly. ๐
You have alligators?!?! Move! Do it now!! Fire up that golf cart and head out!
Those gators just can not be trusted! (don’t ask me how I know) ๐ ๐
I’m on it, Phil, just as soon as I learn how to drive one of those golf carts. Can they move faster than gators? ๐
A pleasure to see some more of your surroundings Sylvia. I don’t envy your husband assembling all those kitchen units. Flat pack nightmare 8O.
I’m sure it’ll be no time before you’re using that oven. ๐
Thanks, Adrian. We just have to work out a way of getting that very heavy oven up into the wall unit. Some muscle is required. ๐
If I could get food like that at the pool side I’d take Hubbie there if I was you… Love the photos… “getting to know you, getting to know all about you…” that was a song I think…
“The King and I.” ๐ There is a certain dress code at the restaurant, so he’d have to get cleaned up a bit first. Paint spattered T-shirt and his oldest shorts just wouldn’t cut it. ๐
Alligators?? Oh dear ๐
Well, only one. ๐
glad to hear this !!!
YOu paint a perfect picture! Have fun, and watch out for alligators.
Thanks, Naomi. I’ll certainly keep a look out. ๐
Looks like busy and lazy surroundings ๐
You could say that, newsy. ๐
