This ATM in Boca Raton, Florida, dispenses gold coins and bars weighing up to 8 ounces, at prices updated every 10 minutes based on the real-time spot price of gold. I didn’t see anyone using it, but I read thatΒ the Abu Dhabi machine is so popular that is has to be restocked every two days! π

Very strange, indeed. I wonder if anyone ever does use it?
With prices the way they are, I wonder how many can afford it! Cool shot though π
I wonder too, Madhu. I’d love to give it a try just to see if it actually works, though. π
That is Florida for you…I haven’t seen one on our visits there but it doesn’t surprise me. I don’t think the ATM would get much business here in New Hampshire. π
I believe it’s the only one in the USA. π
I’d have to use my whole month’s wage if I wanted to stop by there… I wonder how often the burglars try breaking in? π
I too won’t be using that machine. I’m sure it wouldn’t last long in South Africa. π―
Not a day, I’d say! π
π Amazing!
π Totally.
That’s so crazy! Never seen one, but machines dispense all sorts of things. Saw one on the news that sells caviar
Wow! I have not seen that type of ATM before. How wild? (Is that why there is a lion cub on the front?) I wish they had a Gold Coin star machine where you could bring in your old nugget rings and chains and get money returned based on gold prices. π
Now THAT is what you call a vending machine! Wowza!
Oh yes, not just a few chocolate bars and cans of cool drink. π
Flabbergasted! What will they think of next?
Who knows, Tilly? π
that is amazing that people would buy gold coins from a machine π
Isn’t it just? I was gob-smacked. π
Just wondering whether the coins come out in a net bag like those ones we buy to put in our Christmas Stockings … and I’m not talking about the Wolford kind you understand π
I would want the Wolford stockings as a bonus for using the machine. I may have to go back next time we’re in Florida. I’ll hang around to see what happens if anyone uses it. I could be there for weeks, so better I take my bed and some snacks with me. π
It’s a bit scary to get close to it during this tough times. People might mistake us as rich for buying gold. Cool device though.
Absolutely scary. I wouldn’t want to get mugged on the way to the car. π―
Never saw anything like this but cool to know about it now. Thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed, Ruth. π
Now that is pretty awesome, and of course Boca would have one. π
Of course it would, Emily. π
I am just dumfounded. I guess I lead a sheltered life over here on the west coast, Sylvia.
Hahaha. You’re not missing out on anything, Lynne. π
Is there a sign on there somewhere that says…
“If you don’t buy gold here now, this poor lion cub goes to bed hungry!” π¦
Guess the ones in SA would be dispensing Krugerrands huh Sylvia?
Well until the whole machine got heisted of course. π
Of course, Phil. Those machines wouldn’t last 5 minutes here. The gold would be heisted before it even reached the machine. π―
I’m thinking of getting one of those for my lounge room π
Great idea, Dianne. π
Itagged you here http://viewfromtheside.wordpress.com/2013/03/27/ive-been-tagged-by-huntmode-of-chasing-rabbit-holes/
So I saw. π
Sylvia — I guess if there’s ever a threat of a coup d’etat in the U.S., maybe a “gold on the go” machine isn’t such a bad idea.
Can you imagine that happening? π
I amazed at how callous all your commenters are. Not one person asked about the lion. I mean, who feeds it? For shame on all of you!
Hehehe. It’s only on screen for a few seconds at a time, so maybe it pops out for a snack occasionally. They’re probably wondering why some of the shoppers have gone missing. π
Well that’s different, we’re more used to seeing ‘sell your gold here’ π
Yes, we get that too in America. There are sandwich-board people standing at the side of the road, advertising exactly that. Loads of pawn shops too. π

Fascinating. I can’t see myself buying gold in that way mind you. π
I also found it a novelty, Adrian. It wasn’t having my plastic though. π
Are you kidding me???? Some night a pickup truck with a small crane is going to come bashing into the mall, load up the machine and drive out again.!! CRAAAZY!!
Well that would happen here in Africa, without a doubt. π―
!!
Now that is something I never imagined seeing.
There’s a first time for everything, Frank. π
I would be a little nervous about getting some gold, wondering who was watching me, and how safe I would be. I would rather carry something less weighty, anyway. Thank goodness for plastic. The less I carry, the less I lay something down and forget it! π Great picture! π
Me too, Marsha. Thanks. I couldn’t resist a pic. π
I have never seen anything like that! How funny!
I would be embarrassed to be seen using it. π
Can only be in US – the land of magic *smile
That’s true. π
So AD, you buy the gold from the ATM and then go across to Cartier, just next to the ATM, for a chain to hang it round your neck π
π
wowee!!!
Exactly! π
Ich wΓΌrde nicht in der NΓ€he eines Bankautomaten so gehen.! π
Weder wΓΌrde ich. π
Wow! I never knew there were machines dispensing the pure 24 carat stuff like this. Must be requiring huge security infrastructure. What could be the reason for this widely different off take of Gold between Florida and Abu Dhabi? What could be the compulsion for converting cash to Gold at AUH?
Cheers
Shakti
Very strange isn’t it? I think plastic money is much more preferable. It weighs next to nothing in my purse. π
I wouldn’t walk near an ATM machine like that.. it wouldn’t only swallow my card it would probably swallow me as well… can you imagine something like that here.??
Bwahahaha……If they had such a thing in South Africa, it would need replacing every day. π―
they’d keep blowing it up…
That’s no maybe. π
Hm… very interisting ATM π
Glad you enjoyed. π
Does it take coppers?
I very much doubt it, Dallas. π
Oh, to be in a position to use one of those machines!
Hahaha. I’d rather not tempt fate by carrying gold bars around with me. π
Oh wow! that’s incredible. I think I’ll go collect my gold bar and go shopping! Lol hugs Paula xxx
Hehehe. Enjoy, Paula. π
Looks like a great racket at a time when gold prices are higher than they’ve ever been. π
Absolutely, Gunta. I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole, but it was a good photo opportunity. The security guards gave me a funny look though. I was worried they might confiscate my iPhone π
Have you ever!!!
Can’t imagine myself ever using an ATM like that π
Me neither, 68. I’m sure some of our politicians would love it though. Bling bling! π
