    • Yes she was absolutely thrilled. We also bought her an original August 4th, 1913 Daily telegraph newspaper. It’s fascinating to look through and see the news and advertisements on that day. πŸ™‚

  1. Beautiful frame! I missed to ask (or you already told and I missed). Is it a tradition that the queen sent this letter to a person who live to 100 years?

  2. I love the queen even though I’m all the way over here in Atlanta. I would cherish this gift, as I’m sure your MIL does!

  3. I bet it will be displayed in a prominent spot to remind her of the wonderful day.
My mum made it (exactly) to her 96th. I wonder if our president would have sent her a card if she had hung on another 4 years. Probably not, we’re just not that cool!

    • Yes it’s already up in the entrance hall. This tradition started with King George V in 1917, so it’s been going on for almost a hundred years. πŸ™‚ We British are very cool indeed. πŸ˜†

  4. A wonderful gift for a tremendous milestone bday!

BTW – I love the title of this post. It sounds dramatic & like a title for a mystery film or novel.

  5. Wow …. 100 years old – what a fantastic thing. My deepest and happiest congratulation to your mother in law. Beautiful acknowledgment from the Queen. Thanks for sharing.
