Wordless Wednesday: Race you to the top!

If you’re feeling energetic you can climb the spiral stone staircase up into the South Tower of Cologne Cathedral. There are 533 steps to the observation deck, but the top of the spire at an altitude of 157.3 m, is accessible only via a ladder on the outside. There is no elevator. πŸ™‚

    • I have no idea how it works. I didn’t notice the ladder until we were outside again. The observation deck lower down has been fenced in, as there had been some suicides, so I imagine this climb must have some sort of safety measures. πŸ™‚

      • I might do it, but would be terrified the whole time. And i would be cursing myself for doing it and then a few days later I would think: that was fun.

  1. Maybe another day AD. Busy washing carpets and no energy left to race you to the top. πŸ˜† Great photo hon and thanks for sharing. πŸ˜€ *big hugs*

  2. I was thinking I’d be right behind you, Ad, but I’m not so sure that’s a good idea? I mean, if it rains we’ll get very wet out there. πŸ™‚

  3. I’m with the majority here…. no way. Out of breath just looking at it, not to mention my growing fear of heights. (Why at this late stage?)

  4. My fear of heights is descending upon me! I imagined myself climbing that ladder. I’d have to pass no matter how energetic I felt. Great picture for evoking so much emotion without words ☺

  5. Thanks. But seriously, no thanks πŸ˜‰
I will be content to watch the grandeur from the safety of terra firma if you don’t mind πŸ˜‰

  6. Funny… I am afraid of heights but last night I dreamed I was climbing up ladder after ladder after ladder…. maybe it was this tower!

  7. Oh, no! Just seeing things like that gives me the willies! I cannot fathom people who willingly go up there for a living or for thrills. I’m happiest when my feet are planted firmly on the ground, thank you very much. πŸ™‚
