Ailsa’s travel theme: Food

“There is no sincerer love, than the love of food.” ~ George Bernard Shaw.

On my travels, I’ve eaten some wonderful meals and blogged quite a few of them already, so for Ailsa’s travel food challenge, I thought I’d just concentrate on shopping for the ingredients needed  to make meals in different countries.

Of course unless you’re a vegetarian, you’ll be needing some meat, so we’ll go to Peru for a nice bit of guinea pig. Feel free to choose the plumpest one that takes your fancy.

Or how about a nice succulent chicken from The Medina in Morocco?

or a few tasty slices of Wild Boar, sold on the street in the beautiful medieval town of San Gimignano in Tuscany?

Now we have the meat sorted, we’ll move on to the vegetables, starting off with a wonderful choice of corn at a market in Peru, on the road from Cusco to Machu Picchu.

Healthy, fresh veggies can also be found at this market in Cuenco in the highlands of Ecuador.

In the hills just outside Marrakech, you will find a vegetable market frequented by the locals, so the prices may be more reasonable than those closer to the city.

As you can see, it’s not too busy, so you may probably be able to negotiate a good price with these guys.

Here at the Medina at Fes, is the most amazing selection of nuts, dates and dried fruit.

Then for a delicious dessert, we can travel back to San Gimignano to the famous “Gelateria di Piazza” in the Piazza della Cisterna. Sergio is the master ice cream maker there, and his ice cream parlour is mentioned in the most important world guides. This small shop with all its tempting choices, is continuously visited by national and international celebrities and television crews; but be prepared to take a number, and stand in line for quite a while.

I think I like the grains, beans, nuts and fruis the best. I’m not a vegatarian but don’t eat meat much. I love gelato. I could eat tha all day long. MMMmmm …. I wish they would make it the perfect food group. Great photo’s, as always … i enjoy your entries so much. Thanks for the trip. Isadora

    • Thanks so much for your lovely comment, Isadora. Yes, I could also live on gelato if only it were healthier, especially in the summer months. So many flavours to choose from, that one wouldn’t get bored. 😉

  3. Great food photos, adinparadise (run free, little guinea pigs!) The corn looks delicious, so many different varieties. I don’t think life gets much better than an ear of corn roasted over a fire and doused in butter. Slurp!

  4. WOW! What a beautiful market photographs… fascinated me. I could be lost in there… I loved your photographs. Thank you dear AD, love, nia

  6. Wonderful tour of food! I love nuts and fruits, but I really would like to have three or four of those baskets…

  7. A friend ate guinea pig in Peru, even if I did eat meat I couldn’t eat that though I would hear their lovely little squeeks ever after! i’ll stick with the tiramisu gelato! Another wonderful post AD 🙂

  8. Excellent post, everything looks wonderfully delicious … I’m willing to try most things once and don’t think I’d have a problem with anything on your shopping list

  9. You have certainly been exposed to a variety of cuisines! I would really like to try the wild boar. Not the wildly boring. I get quite enough of those.

  10. Wow…..as picky an eater as I am,I should just stay at home,LOL! 😛 Just kidding (well, not about the picky part) 😀 Good read,my friend!

  11. That wild boar looks a darned site better than the warthog I was served at some fancy game lodge. Dry as dust, it was 😦

  12. Great photos! Many of us tend to lose sight of where our food comes from, if not an air conditioned supermarket, and that gathering ingredients is a daily ritual.

  13. Thank you I’m vegetarian – let’s set the animals free! But seriously, why a guinea pig? Guess the same can be asked about cats and dogs and spiders and other animals.

  14. Quite the delicious meal you planned there AD 😉
Although, I don’t think I’ll be partaking of the gunea pigs!!

  15. Best I rather do not see the live animals – I would be vegetarian for sure. The ice cream looks delicious I hope that the stand in the line was worth it!

    • Yes, I couldn’t eat anything which might be considered as a pet. The ice cream was well worth the wait, but it disappeared far too quickly. 😉

  16. What a wonderful tour of food around the world. Excellent post for the food challenge. Ice cream please!

    BE ENCOURAGE! BE BLESSED!
